Radiological findings in 28 cattle with pericarditis traumatica.

Radiological findings are presented for 28 cows with pericarditis traumatica. In 14, a foreign body could be seen perforating the cranial reticulum wall, in which the foreign body was partly (5 cows) or totally (9) outside the reticulum wall. In addition, a pocket of gas was seen in the vicinity of the foreign body in 8 cows, a gas/fluid mixture in 1 cow and a loss of the diaphragm contour in 6 cows. In 15 cows, the foreign body was identified as a piece of wire, and in 7 there was a needle. In 4 other cows, a foreign body could be seen embedded in the reticulum tissue, while in 3 further cows the foreign body was lying in the bottom of the reticulum. Seven of the 28 cows had no foreign body. The radiological findings are discussed.
