Aspiration pneumonia in 40 cows after oral treatment.

An account is given of the symptoms and pathology shown by 40 cows that had aspiration pneumonia after oral treatment with drugs or household remedies. 16 of the cows were slaughtered immediately because of poor prognosis. Of the remaining 24, 13 had to be killed despite intensive treatment with antibiotics and/or glucocorticoids. Of the 11 which improved after treatment, 3 had to be killed shortly afterwards because of further ill health. PM examination of the organs of the cows revealed signs of aspiration pneumonia in all of them, and severe pulmonary emphysema in 17.
