Resistance pattern and enterotoxin production of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from bovine mastitis milk samples

63 S. aureus strains were isolated from milk samples from cows with mastitis in 57 farms in Switzerland. 14 (22%) of the S. aureus strains were resistant to one or more of the antibiotics tested. Six resistance patterns were found. 14.3% of the strains were penicillin-resistant. 34 (54%) of the 63 S. aureus produced enterotoxins (SE). Three strains produced SEA, 21 produced SEC, 3 produced SED and 7 strains produced 2 SE, SEAC, SEAD or SEBD.
