OXIDATION OF BENZOINS TO BENZILS WITH SODIUM DICHROMATE UNDER VISCOUS CONDITIONS

摘要

A new, efficient, and selective oxidation of benzoins into corresponding benzils using sodium dichromate under viscous conditions at room temperature is described. The present oxidations are completed within 1 h with an yield between 85-95%. This method can overcome the problems existing in the solvent-free reactions concerning the difficulty for the solid molecular collision to react at using hexavalent chromium derivative as oxidants.
