摘要

The conformational studies on 2-aiyl-trans-decahydroquinolin-4-ols were carried out by studying the rates of oxidation of the alcohols with thallium(III)in aqueous acetic acid medium.The reaction followed overall second order- first order each in oxidant and substrate.Axial alcohols were found to get oxidised at a much faster rate than equatorial alcohols.Alcohols having a methyl group on the adjacent carbon atom were found to oxidise at slower rate.Substituents in phenyl ring were found to influence the rate of oxidation of epimeric alcohols.The influences of solvent composition,added mineral acid and temperature were also carried out.These results along with results obtained by calculation of energies were analysed to elucidate the conformations of said compounds.
