A Decade of Research on Invasions of Alien Species in the Holarctic

Starting from the middle of the 20th century, many parts of the Earth witnessed changes related to penetration of alien, noninherent species into natural and artificial ecosystems from other regions. These colonizer species not only significantly affected the indigenous species and ecosystems but, in some cases, put' under threat the security of existence and sustained development of entire regions and countries. In the Russian Federation, purposeful fundamental and applied studies of alien species as sources of ecological hazard to the country began relatively recently.
