A 30-day "operational rehearsal" over Afghanistan by a pair of radar-equipped U.K. Sentinel battlefield surveillance aircraft has ended with reports of success from the British government and Royal Air Force. However, independent analysts in Britain and the U.S. have mixed their plaudits with caution. None doubted the British government's performance claims for the Sentinel Airborne Stand-off Radar (Astor) aircraft, but they expressed concerns over funding levels, interoperability with American radar aircraft and the ability of military networks to incorporate the plane's intelligence, which depicts movements of ground vehicles.
