Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessels for Space Applications

The Pressure Technology Division of Carleton Technologies produces lightweight composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPV) for a wide variety of applications. These pressure vessels are usually filament wound with thermoset resin matrices and serve to contain gas pressures for applications involving both short-term and long-term uses at a variety of conditions. An overview of the design, development and testing of these types of pressure vessels for a space application is presented. Unique design and manufacturing techniques are used to fully optimize the pressure vessels for these challenging applications.
