Single-source-precursor synthesis of SiBNC-Zr ceramic nanocomposites fibers

We prepared SiBNC-Zr ceramic precursors (PBSZ-Zr) by reacting low molecular polyborosilazane (LPBSZ) with Cp2ZrCl2. The precursor green fibers were synthesized by melt spinning. After curing and pyrolysis, the green fibers converted into SiBNC-Zr ceramic nanocomposites fibers. The SiBNC-Zr ceramic nanocomposites fibers were amorphous, with smooth and uniform surfaces when pyrolyzed below 1200 degrees C. Nanoscale ZrCxNy and Si3N4 particles were dispersed in an amorphous SiBNC ceramic matrix after pyrolyzed at 1400 degrees C. As a result, the oxidation resistance of the SiBNC-Zr ceramic fibers improved because of the introduction of Zr element.
