In January an announcement was made which will affect the practice of safety management on British railways. Currently these processes are conducted in line with a two part publication called the Yellow Book, this is published by the UK’s Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB). At the beginning of 2012 the board announced that operating on the recommendations of a working group they would be cancelling the next revision of this guide (Issue 5), withdrawing the current Issue 4 and be instigating a new more diffuse framework of guidance documents in its place.
