A recent field survey carried out for the Department of Primary Industries of the Australian State of Victoria has conclusively demonstrated that the EM radiation given off by smart meters is comfortably within present exposure guidelines. Indeed the tests, carried out by EMC Technologies - Melbourne, showed that radio-frequency (RF) exposure from smart meters was likely to be significantly less than from other common household appliances like cordless telephones. At the extremely low frequency (ELF) of 50 Hz, field strengths were found to be lower than those generated by traditional rotating disc meters.~1
