COLUMBIA,NID-Vaccination of both staff and residents is key to lowering the chance of a potentially deadly outbreak of influenza in nursing homes,according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association(Vol.7,Issue 9).The study found that while"staff and resident rates of immunization did not independently predict the likelihood of an outbreak,[they] jointly were strong predictors."Nursing homes where more than 55 percent of the staff and 89 percent of residents received a flu vaccina-' tion were 60 percent less likely to have clusters of influenza-like illnesses occur.
