The total estimated cost of arthritis and other rheumatic conditions reached 128 billion in 2003,according to a recent analysis from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.CDC estimated that direct costs associated with arthritis,such as medical expenses,totaled 80.8 billion.Indirect costs,such as lost earnings,totaled 47 billion.By state,the costs ranged from 225.5 million in the District of Columbia to 12.1 billion in California,CDC found.
