MSHA posts top mine violations for 2004

Accumulation of combustible materials in underground coal mines was the most frequently cited mine safety violation in 2004,according to statistics released April 15 by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.A total of 6,585 citations for accumulation of combustible materials were reported,accounting for 26 percent of all citations issued in underground coal mines.In 2003,underground coal mines received 5,591 citations for the same violation.
