OSHA's Columbus Area Office makes VPP history

When John Henshaw ran OSHA during the first term of the Bush administration,one of his goals was to increase participation in the agency's Voluntary Protection Program to include more than 8,000 worksites.At the time of Henshaw's pronouncement,VPP participation numbered fewer than 1,000 sites;today diat number has surpassed 1,300.VPP began as a formal OSHA program in 1982 to promote effective worksite-based safety and health.Deputy administrator Jonathan L.Snare,speaking at the annual conference of the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association conference in Dallas,said VPP "is OSHA's premier cooperative program,representing the highest levels of commitment to safety and health."
