Anatomy of male Persian squirrel (Sciurus anomalus) reproductive organs.

Although squirrels (Sciurus anomalus) are a wildspecies kept as domesticated animals with increased referrals. We describe macroscopic andmicroscopic anatomy of 7 male Persian squirrels suffering from ailments not associated with thereproductive tract. The ellipsoidal testes of the Persian squirrel were large, pink brown withscrotal pouches in contact with abdominal muscles of the pubis with average length,2.17±0.32cm, diameter 1.26±0.21cm, weight 1.55±0.46g and volume 1.87±0.82cm 3 comprising0.82 ± 0.02% body weight. The epididymis was elongated with convoluted tube attached totestes dorsolaterally measuring 28.82±0.32cm. Paired ductus deferens ascended in mesoductuson medial surface of the cauda joining long thick spermatic cords ending in the urethra withoutampulla with average length of 25.28±0.61 cm and diameter 0.11±0.02cm. Accessory glandsincluded coagulating, prostate, and bulbourethral glands; with the ducts of the bulbourethralglands independently opening into bulb of penis in dorsal urethra. Average length was0.03±0.01cm and width 0.02±0.01cm The duct of the gland ended at urethra at distal penis. Thepenis was J-shaped with a length of 5.87±0.68cm length with a penis bone. A nail-likecartilaginous structure was found at the tip of the penis. Various images represent the describedstructures.
