Group petitions OSHA on silica, occupational noise

Arlington, VA - The International Safety Equipment Association is seeking OSHA action on two safety issues - silica in sandblasting operations and hearing protection. ISEA filed petitions with the agency April 28. The silica petition seeks an expedited rulemaking to prohibit the use of silica sand in abrasive blasting operations, noting that sandblasting "continues to be one of the areas of greatest exposure to respirable crystalline silica." The petition was filed jointly with the New York-based Risk Insurance Management Society.
