Reaction of nido-[(Cp*Ru)(2)(mu -H)(2)(B3H7)] (1) with tertiary phosphines led to the degradation of the cluster framework and yielded [(Cp*Ru)(2)(mu -H)(parallel to-mu-eta (4)-B2H5)(PR3)] (PR3 = PMe3 (2a) PMe2Ph (2b)). Thermolysis of 2b gave the phosphido-bridged complex nido-[(Cp*Ru)(2)(mu -PMe2)(perpendicular to-mu-eta (4)-B2H5)] (3). The solid-state structures of phosphine complex 2a and the phosphido-bridged 3 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The solid-state structures of these complexes revealed two new modes of coordination for the B2H5 fragment. Compound 3 exhibits fluxional behavior in solution. [References: 63]
