Variability in disease parameters of bacterial blight resistance in rice in line x tester analysis

The extent of variability in 3 parameters of bacterial blight (Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae) resistance: lesion length, diseased leaf area and disease incidence, and their rate of development, were studied using 7 parents (2 testers + 5 lines) along with 10 crosses of rice in experimental field plots in Assam in 1995. Substantial variability for the characters was observed in terms of mean, phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation. High estimates of heritability for the characters indicated that each of the parameter is heritable.
