Effect of herbicides on direct-seeded rice under puddled condition

Field experiments were conducted to find out effectiveness of herbicides to weed control in direct-seeded rice under puddle conditions during wet seasons of 2001 and 2002. The highest grain yield 3.661 ha~(-1), and control weeds efficiency of 79.36% were noted with two hand weedings, whereas the lowest grain yield 0.79 t ha~(-1) was observed with unweeded control with the highest dry matter 9.931 ha~(-1) of weeds. All the herbicidal treatments significantly reduced the weed growth production and increased the grain yield over unweeded (control). Among herbicides, butachlor + propanil 28+28 EC @ 1.12+1.12 kg a.i. ha~(-1) recorded highest grain yield 3.581 ha~(-1) and weed control efficiency of 41.39% were calculated. All the yield attributing characters were also higher than other herbicidal treatments which indicated the effectiveness of herbicides in direct-seeded rice under puddled conditions.
