'Line x Tester' analysis consisting of 60 hybrids involving 12 lines (8 cyto-sterile lines and 4 maintainers) and 5 testers was carried out, The greater values of sea than gca variances, higher values of degree of dominance and lower predictability ratio were observed for all the eight characters including grain yield indicating the greater importance of non-additive gene actions for all the eight traits studied. Cyto-sterile lines possessing 'WA' type of sterile cytoplasm were good general combinersfor grain yield than CMS lines having 'MS 577' type of cytoplasm, The general combining ability of testers showed that Narendra 118 was the best, followed by Saket 4 for most of the characters, in general, the hybrids with high sea effects involved either both or one parent as good general combiner and any cross which expressed high per se performance for a particular trait was derived from parents with good general combining ability for that trait.
