Genetic variability and correlation studies in segregating populations of indegenous scented x high yielding non-scented crosses of rice

Genetic variability of ten plant characters and association of grain yield plant~(-1) with other characters were studied in eight genotypes of rice comprising three photoperiod insensitive high yielding parents viz., Jaya, Ratna and Rasi and five crosses viz., Rangajoha x Rasi, Arabjoha x Jaya, Chufanjoha x Ratna, Rangajoha x Ratna and Borjoha x Ratna in their F_4 generation. High genetic coefficients of variation were observed for plant height, sterility percentage, grain yield plant~(-1) and 100-grain weight. High heritability coupled with moderate to high genetic advance was recorded for plant height, sterility percentage, 100-grain weight and grain yield plant~(-1). Grain yield plant~(-1) was positively and significantly correlated with number of grains panicle~(-1) and 100-grain weight at genetic level and negatively and significantly with plant height at environmental level.
