Body extracts of adults, nymphs and eggs of rice planthoppers viz., brown planthopper (BPH) Nilaparvata lugens Stal, whitebacked planthopper (WBPH) Sogatella furcifera Horvath and green leafhopper (GLH) Nephotettix virescens Distant were tested for their kairomonal activity to attract the predatory mirid bugs, Cyrtorhinus lividipennis Reuter and Tytthus parviceps Reuter. Body extracts of BPH and WBPH were more attractive to the mirid bugs compared to those of GLH. Gravid female body extract was moreattractive than the nymphal and egg extracts. Plants sprayed with BPH body extracts attracted more number of mirid bugs compared to those sprayed with WBPH and GLH body extracts. Plants damaged by adult hoppers attracted larger number of mirid bugs thanthe nymphal damaged plants. This indicates that the host insect body extracts and adult oviposited plants contain some attractants (kairomones) which were perceived by the mirid bugs and were used as host finding cues.
