The genetic nature of high density (HD) grain was studied in six crosses using the six parameter model, The multiple genes with both dominance and additive effects controlled the HD grain index (HDI) on primary and secondary branches, though the dominance effects were greater in most of the crosses. The heritability estimates were high only in one cross and for other crosses the estimates were low to moderate. The number of effective factor pairs varied from one to twelve. Recurrent selection utilizing both dominance and additive effects would be advantageous for development of genotypes with higher HD grains.
