Field trials were conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Lonavla for three years i.e. 1993, 1994 and 1995 to study the effect of fungicides, as seed dressers, and solar heat treatment in controlling udbatta disease of rice caused by Ephelis oryzae Sydow (Balansia oryzae - sativae Hashioka). Amongst different seed treatments, the maximum disease control with 71.85% reduction in infected earhead and simultaneous increase in grain yield by 23.45% were achieved by carbendazim + thiram (1:1) at the rate of 4 g kg~(-1) seed. Analysis of the economics of disease control revealed highest cost-benefit ratio of 1:19.5 through this treatment,
