Nodulation and shoot biomass production with and without phosphorus application were studied in green manuring crops viz, sunhemp (Crotolariajuncea), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) and dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata). Phosphorus application increased nodulation in green manuring crops significantly at 30 and 45 days after sowing and crop biomass production increased at 55 days after sowing. Burial of P-fertilised sunhemp and cowpea in soil before transplanting rice increased grain yield significantly on anaverage by 18% as compared to incorporation of non-P fertilised green manuring crops, Available P content of soil after rice harvest in case of green manuring crops was higher than treatment containing 90 kg N+50 kg P_2O_5 ha~(-1).
