Performances of rice varieties in rice + Pigeonpea inter cropping system for rainfed uplands

A field experiment was conducted during the wet seasons of 2001 and 2002 at the Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack in order to study the performance of different rice varieties in rice + pigeon pea intercropping system for rainfed uplands; Fromthe experimental results, if revealed that intercropping system yielded 50% more than pure crop when rice cv Vandana was intercropped with pigeon pea, exhibiting rice equivalent of 4. 391 ha~(-1)- and net return of Rs.14, 130 ha~(-1) over sole rice cropwith the highest benefit :cost ratio of 2.61. The rice cv. Vandana performed better over other cultivars during both the years.
