Evaluation of integrated rice (Oryza sativa) production management technique in developed watershed

For increasing productivity in rainfed rice production system an integrated watershed management approach is needed to combine both soil and water conservation measures along with integrated rice production technique. On-farm farmer's participatory trial conducted in six villages during wet seasons of 2002 and 2003 in Odagaon block of Nayagarh district to evaluate the integrated rice production technique in the treated watershed. The results revealed that high yielding variety Vandana out yielded local variety Saliagaja under both Improved management techniques (IMT) and Traditional management technique (TMT). Both the varieties, Saliagaja and Vandana however on an average produced 30 and 58 % more yield under improved techniques than in the traditional management techniques, respectively. Economic analysis showed that IMT despite higher (24%) cost of cultivation provided an increased net return of 108 and 53.5 % over TMT with Vandana and Saliagaja varieties, respectively with corresponding B:C ratio of 1.93 and 1.535.
