A field experiment was conducted to find out an effective method of chemical weed control in direct seeded rice under puddled conditions during wet seasons of 1996 & 1997. All the herbicidal treatments significantly reduced the weed growth and increased the grain yield over unweeded control. The highest grain yield (3.89 t ha~(-1)) and weed control efficiency (90,45 percent) was recorded with two hand weedings. Amongst herbicides, Argold (Cinmethyline) @ 0.075kg a.i. ha~(-1) recorded highest weed control efficiency (64.26 percent), grain yield (3.11 t ha~(-1)) and panicles m~(-2) (198.9 m~(-2)) which was at par with one hand weeding (3.36 t ha~(-1)) and reported to unweeded control.
