Screening a set of 90 lines comprising elite lines, accessions of certain wild species and the near isogenic lines (NILs) for bacterial blight (BB) resistance against western Uttar Pradesh isolate was done in glasshouse under epiphytotic conditions.Screening results indicated only wild species, O. perennis (Acc. No. 100692) was resistant and nine moderately resistant, while 15, 33 and 32 lines gave moderately susceptible, susceptible and highly susceptible reactions, respectively. Genetics of resistance in O. perennis (Acc. 100692) was analysed using F_1, F_2 and F_3 generation of cross with the susceptible variety T(N)I under epiphytotic conditions in glasshouse. Results indicated that resistance was controlled by single dominant and recessive genes each with inhibitory gene interaction. Resistance genes in the line were non allelic to xa 13 and Xa 21 genes present in the NILs, BBL 180-5-1-4-1 and BBL 307-4-1-2-1, respectively and conferred resistance against the BB isolate at Pantnagar.
