Effect of solid waste from a chlor-alkali factory on accumulation of mercury and changes in biomass of rice roots

Effect of application of solid waste from a chlor-alkali factory to soil in different proportions on rice roots was studied in a pot-culture experiment. The roots accumulated an appreciable amount of mercury from the solid waste + soil combination andthe accumulation increased with increasing period of exposure. A significant decrease in the biomass and length of roots was also observed.
