A field experiment on scented rice (Pusa Basmati-1) was conducted at Rajendranagar (clay soil) during wet season 1994 and 1995 to study its performance in terms of grain yield and its quality under two levels of compost, two levels of phosphorus andfour levels of potash. The grain yield differences between levels of compost and phosphorus were not significant, while application of 30 kg K_2O ha~(-1) recorded maximum grain yield (4.79 t ha~(-1)) and potash use efficiency (12.8 kg grain kg~(-1) potash). The mean economic optimum and maximum K_2O dose were worked nut lo be 40 and 45 kg ha~(-1). respectively). Various grain quality parameters were not influenced by compost and phosphorus levels. However, no compost and 50 kg P_2O_5 ha~(-1) recorded numerically higher head rice recovery. Similarly 30 kg K_2O ha~(-1) recorded higher values of head rice recovery, kernel length, length: breadth ratio and kernel length alter cooking in comparison to 60 and 90 kg K_2O ha~(-1).
