Mode of gene action for some important characters in rice

A set of diallele crosses involving 7 rice varieties of different duration groups was evaluated for six yield attributing characters. The additive natup of gene action was predominant for all the characters. The high heritability In narrow sense was also established for all the characters. For varietal improvement in very early group, the exploitation of CR 289-1008 might be useful, as it possessed more number of desirable recessive genes for earliness and longer grains and dominant genes for highertest weight
