Donors for resistance to brown planthopper in rice

In-depth studies on selected seventeen BPH resistant rice varieties indicated that varieties Jaybay Rang, Khatiyapathi, Kappe, Hathipanjada, Kansari and Jalli exhibited very little feeding with least plant damage score. The results suggest the vast potential of these germplasm with respect to the BPH resistance gene pool and existence of better ecogenetic diversity, which is essential in agro-ecosystem, thereby providing best option for plant breeders and biotechnologists to develop suitable genotypes to combat BPH. It also appeared that these varieties carry unidentical heritable genetic code.
