摘要

Robert Rodale joined his father in the publishing business in 1948, when he was still a journalism student at Lehigh University. By the 1960s, he had become the editor of Organic Gardening and its most vocal advocate for environmental protection. In his monthly columns, Bob encouraged the magazine's readers to share gardening experiences and success stories. The "Letters" department became a neighborly forum of organic testimonials and growing tips. Articles with titles like "Seaweed Saved My Garden," "There's a Goat in Your Future," and "Why Not Grow Some Peanuts" dispensed folksy advice. Still, OG remained a magazine with a chip on its shoulder—always needing to prove itself to a largely skeptical and uninterested world.
