Estimate of the Lorentzian Profile Half-Width in a Fourier Spectrometer

The application of methods of statistical theory of estimates to Fourier spectroscopy is considered for the case of the Lorentzian model of spectral power density. Algorithms developed for one or two profiles with a known or unknown amplitude allow one to estimate the half-width with an accuracy that is considerably better than with the Rayleigh resolution. The explicit dependences of the estimate and its dispersion on the signal-to-noise ratio are obtained.
