Saturation and transparency methods were verified in experiments on He-Ne or Ne atomic ensembles perturbed by 3391 nm laser radiation. For this purpose, population ratios of the 5s'[1/2]_(1)~(o) and 4p'[3/2]_(2) neon levels were measured with these methods. The measurements show that population ratios for He-Ne discharge (with gain properties at 3391 nm) are larger when computed with the transparency than those with the saturation method.
