摘要

Anisotropic diffraction patterns from guest host liquid crystals (GHLCs) were observed. The anisotropic diffraction phenomena originated in photothermal effects and the anisotropic thermal conductivity of the GHLCs, The mechanism of the anisotropic diffraction pattern formation was quantitatively clarified by Kirchhoffs diffraction theory and heat conduction analysis. The results showed that our analytical technique was suitable for describing the photothermal nonlinear phenomena including the anisotropic self-phase modulation in the GHLC cell.
