The influence of the word length (WL) of a pseudo-random bit sequence (PRBS) on nonlinear crosstalks is examined. It is shown that the crosstalk due to stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) greatly depends on the WL, while that due to a self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation-group velocity dispersion (SPM/XPM-GVD) effect has little dependency on the WL. As for the evaluation of SRS crosstalk, we also derive the WL required to obtain a result that is independent of the WL. In the evaluation of nonlinear crosstalks for systems that are mainly degraded by SRS, a sufficiently long WL must be adopted.
