We read the article entitled "Use of antimetabolites in the reconstruction of severe anophthalmic socket contraction," by Priel et al. They reported 5 cases whose contracted sockets were successfully treated by different grafts, long-time eyelid closure, and adjunctive antimetabolites.One of the most important elements in rehabilitation of a contracted socket is a good vascularity of the tissue inside the socket which is usually hampered by multiple inappropriate manipulation of the socket. A healthy vascularized socket is required as the dermis fat graft is a free graft, and its viability depends on host fibrovascular ingrowth.
