Patients who present for consultation often have a CD-ROM with digital CT or MRI images from an outside institution. It is useful for medicolegal and teaching purposes to extract select images from the disk. However, there are different imaging software vendors, and learning to extract the image from different programs can be very time consuming.A universal solution for image extraction on Microsoft Windows computers is to make use of the Print screen key. The Print screen designation may be abbreviated "Prt Scr," "Print Scrn," "Prt Sen," "Prnt Scrn," or "prt sc" on the computer keyboard. Pressing the combination "alt" + "prt sc" captures the computer screen image. This image can then be pasted to a Microsoft document (e.g., PowerPoint or Word) and cropped to the appropriate size.We do not have experience with Macintosh computers, but apparently the "Cmd" + "Shift" + "3" command will capture the screen.
