ON THE ONE HAND,A RECORD 22,200 wells were drilled in Canada in 2004 and even higher numbers are expected in 2005.On the other hand,much of that activity is in the mature Western Sedimentary Basin,which is showing accelerating declines.And a mushrooming royalty trust sector has energy companies scrambling to squeeze every last drop from existing wells.Both hands are pointing to technology as a way to improve efficiencies and profitability,and GO-EXPO:Gas and Oil Exposition,Canada's largest petroleum show for 2005,is set this June to keep the oilpatch abreast of the latest developments in the industry.
