STATSCAN SAYS EMISSION REDUCTION SPENDING DOWN IN 2004

Statistics Canada says industry spending on greenhouse gas reduction dropped to 955 million in 2004 from 1.3 billion in 2002.The agency says the drop was due mainly to completion of a number of major emission control projects in the oil and gas sector and in the electricity generation,transmission,and distribution industries.Overall,operating expenditures to cut emissions decreased 10 per cent to 576 million,while capital spending fell 41 per cent,to 379 million.
