Commercial natural gas from coal(NGC)production in Alberta was inevitable at some point.The province has a basement stocked with coal-as does much of the United States.For more than a quarter-century,producers in the United States have been producing NGC-or coalbed methane(CBM)-south of the border.What opened the door for CBM in Canada was actually the same thing that sparked its development south of the border:peak conventional natural gas production.
