A f ixture in Canada's oil patch since the 1960s,Dome Petroleum spun out its Dome Canada subsidiary in 1981 to take advantage of National Energy Program's federal land exploration incentives.In the years following,it exploded in size and scope as it bought up land positions across Canada,purchased Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas,and embarked on an ambitious exploration venture in the Beaufort Sea.But like any exploding star.Dome Petroleum finally began to collapse on itself in 1983,when a debt rescheduling plan postponed principal repayments and called for the sale of non-core assets,providing a 700-million equity injection.
