A Comparative Estimation of the Tsunami Hazard for the Russian Coast of the Sea of Japan Based on Numerical Simulation

Comparative characteristics of the heights of tsunami waves along the Russian coast of the Sea of Japan from historical and hypothetical sources are discussed.The hypothetical sources were localized off the coast of Japan (the principal zone of generation of tsunami waves in the Sea of Japan).Within the frameworks of the shallow water theory,distribution of wave heights along the shore were calculated.It was found that,at selected coastal sites,the wave height is small at any location of the source within the zone considered; therefore,at these sites,the tsunami hazard may be ignored.
