Senate Panel Votes to Open Up Eastern Gulf

After a debate in which sparks flew at times, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Tuesday voted Tuesday to open up the Eastern Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas development. The panel voted 13-10 in favor of an amendment from Sen. Byron Dorgan, a North Dakota Democrat, to end the current moratorium on exploration and production in most of the Eastern Gulf.
