US Oil Majors Lag Behind Their European Peers in September

Canada's Suncor emerged as the top performer in the Energy Intelligence Finance (EIF) index of integrated oil and gas firms in September. Shares of the oil sands producer rose 12.8% during the month and are up 77.2% year-to-date in the wake of its $20.7 billion acquisition of Petro-Canada.Suncor's shares fell 5.7% when the deal closed in August, but they recovered last month on news that the firm's Canadian oil sands production is up roughly 25% over last year at 300,000 barrels per day while costs are down 15%.
