Smith Earnings Fall 45%

Oil services company Smith International said on Monday its first-quarter profit fell 45%, as the global economic slowdown caused a sharp decline in drilling activity. Net profit fell to $96.9 million (44￠/share) from $175 million (87￠/share) in the same quarter of last year.
