Alaskan North Slope oil production took a major hit in late May as the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline (Taps) had to be closed for most of the last week of the month. A value failure and relief tank overflow at Pump Station #9 resulted in a 5,000 barrel spill into a contained area surrounding the tank (OD May27,p6).
